The Fifth International Polar Year 2032-2033

Det femte internationella polaråret (International Polar Year, IPY) genomförs 2032–2033 och blir en global satsning på forskning och kunskap om Arktis och Antarktis. Forskare, urfolk och andra aktörer från många länder kommer att samarbeta för att öka kunskapen om polarområdena och deras betydelse för bland annat klimat, biologisk mångfald och samhällen.

IPY 2032–2033 bygger vidare på en mer än 150-årig tradition av internationellt forskningssamarbete i polarområdena. Det senaste internationella polaråret genomfördes 2007–2008. Under de kommande åren planeras och utvecklas forskningsprojekt, observationer, expeditioner samt utbildnings- och kommunikationsinsatser inför den intensiva verksamhetsperioden 2032–2033.

The Fifth International Polar Year (IPY) will take place in 2032–2033 and will be a global initiative focused on research and knowledge about the Arctic and Antarctic. Researchers, Indigenous Peoples and other stakeholders from many countries will work together to advance understanding of the polar regions and their importance for climate, biodiversity and societies, among other areas.

IPY 2032–2033 builds on more than 150 years of international research collaboration in the polar regions. The most recent International Polar Year took place in 2007–2008. Over the coming years, research projects, observations, expeditions, and education and communication activities will be planned and developed in preparation for the intensive phase of activity in 2032–2033.

The Swedish National IPY V Scoping Workshop will bring together researchers, research infrastructures, knowledge holders, stakeholders and organisations with an interest in polar research and innovation.

Swedish Planning Committee Appointed for International Polar Year 2032–2033

The Swedish Polar Research Secretariat has appointed a national planning committee for the fifth International Polar Year (IPY-5), which will take place in 2032–2033. The committee is part of the Secretariat’s government assignment to initiate and coordinate Sweden’s preparations for this major international effort in polar research and collaboration.
