Isbrytaren Oden på expedition i Arktis

Data from the icebreaker Oden

Here you will find meteorological data, oceanographic data and ship data collected during expeditions with the icebreaker Oden.

We use the icebreaker Oden for research expeditions in the Arctic during the summer. An expedition generally lasts between three to six weeks, and Swedish and international researchers accompany the expeditions. On board Oden, there is basic equipment that is always included in all expeditions that the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat, together with partners, are responsible for. It applies to meteorological parameters such as temperature, wind speed and cloud height; oceanographic parameters such as water temperature, salinity and conductivity; as well as ship data such as longitude, latitude and icebreaker speed. In total, there are approximately 150 sensors on board.

Research data from the expeditions

Researchers from Sweden and abroad participate in the expeditions and bring their own scientific instruments on board. Their data are published in a variety of different repositories. Below you will find a link to the Bolin Centre at Stockholm University, which has compiled research data from the Secretariat’s expeditions for researchers at Stockholm University and collaborating partners.
