Francis Halzen has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin. Swedish researchers have been involved in the project since 1993, and the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat has contributed logistical support and personnel during installation campaigns at the South Pole.
