Research Strategy for Antarctica

On 30 April 2024, the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat delivered a proposal for a research strategy for Antarctica on behalf of the Department of Education. The proposal has been prepared by the Polar Research Secretariat in collaboration with the Center for the Arctic and Antarctic (CAA) at Luleå University of Technology. The goal of the research strategy is to raise Sweden's level of ambition as an active research nation in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean by strengthening ongoing research and initiating new collaborations and activities.

Background

In its regulation letter for 2024, the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat was commissioned by the Ministry of Education to produce a proposal for a research strategy for Antarctica with the following focus:

» Identify strategic national research priorities in Antarctica.
» Based on Swedish areas of strength in research and logistics.
» Cooperation with other countries, conditions and choice of path.
" Suggestions for measures.
