Home sweet home!

Wasa, Antarctica, 8 December 2026

Last Friday, the weather finally cleared, and we were able to travel from Wolf’s Fang Camp to the German station Neumayer III, and then on to Wasa. Team members who had been on expeditions in previous years said, “Home sweet home,” when we arrived at the station. As a newcomer in this context, I quickly understood what they meant – and agreed.

The Swedish research station Wasa is like a very cozy mountain cabin: you live together in bunk beds, eat good food together, and enjoy an obligatory coffee on the corner sofa after dinner. Over the coming days, the focus will be on getting everything up and running at the station – securing water, taking out all the vehicles, and preparing for the researchers’ arrival.
