The icebreaker Oden is being prepared for expedition
Helsingborg, 18 June 2024
The mobilization for the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat's expedition North of Greenland 2024 is in full swing in the port of Helsingborg. The icebreaker Oden is being prepared, research instruments are being installed, and the secretariat's winches, laboratories and other equipment are being completed. The expedition will go to North Greenland, and the focus is on the dynamic history of the marine cryosphere and the impact on future climate change, including consequences for marine and terrestrial ecosystems in North Greenland and the adjacent Arctic Ocean, one of the least known regions on Earth. The focus is also on investigating how the ice sheet in North Greenland can contribute to the rise of the global sea level.
On July 15, the icebreaker Oden leaves the harbour in Helsingborg to make its way to Pituffik in Greenland. On August 5, the expedition officially commences with the arrival of our dedicated researchers on board, ready to embark on their scientific journey.
