Dronning Maud Land was the site of a major logistical initiative during the season. The effort included maintenance work on the Wasa and Svea research stations and repairs to the tracked all-terrain vehicles. The expedition ended in February.
The icebreaker Oden is working in the Antarctic during the winter as part of the Swedish-American Oden Southern Ocean cooperative arrangement. The icebreaker will start out doing icebreaking work to enable travel by boat to and from the American McMurdo station, and then serve as a research platform. The research programme is trans-disciplinary, and includes astroparticle physics, geology, oceanography and marine ecology.
The Swedish Polar Research Secretariat will also be supporting a number of other research projects during the 2009/10 Antarctic season.
