11th International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences (ISAES) will be held 10–16 July 2011 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The ambition is to bring together scientists studying the different components of Polar Earth Science to exchange information and perspectives. As we come to terms with climate change, understanding the landscape and environmental response of the Polar regions, in particular the great Antarctic Ice Sheets, becomes ever more important. The Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation announces an open grant for leading Russian and foreign scientists, known for their outstanding achievements in different scientific disciplines. The grant is designed to support scientific research projects to be implemented under the supervision of leading scientists at Russian institutions of higher education. A summer school for young scientists will be held in Abisko 17–24 June 2010. The summer school will offer the opportunity for scientists, young researchers and students to share their views and experiences on the climate change and impacts on sub-polar ecosystems, laying down the basis for future joint research. International Polar YearThe International Polar Year (IPY) was a large scientific programme focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic from March 2007 to March 2009. Although the IPY officially came to a close at a ceremony in Oslo on Saturday 12 June 2010 - the final day of the IPY Oslo Science Conference, many projects and activities will continue on.
