Our task is to promote and co-ordinate Swedish polar research. This means to follow and plan research and development and to organise and lead research expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions. We are also managing the Abisko Scientific Research Station in sub-arctic Sweden.

ECRA pilot workshop: Arctic Climate Stability and Change

Climate observations in the polar areas depend heavily on availability of adequate infrastructures, such as ice breakers, polar research stations, air planes or long term observations of different variables. It is recognized that increased international collaboration is urgently required in order to accomplish the high demand on polar climate research.

APEX VI International Conference and Workshop

The sixth APEX Conference and workshop will be held 15–18 May 2012 at Oulanka Research Station of the Thule Institute run by Oulu University and located in Northeastern Finland.

Antarctic organisations launch fellowships

Two Antarctic organisations have joined forces to launch Fellowships for early career researchers. The Fellowships are worth up to $US15,000 each and up to five (4 SCAR and 1 COMNAP Fellowships) are on offer for 2012.

Researcher in Resilience in Arctic Social-Ecological Systems

In a joint venture with the Stockholm Environmental Institute,  Stockholm Resilience Centre seeks a researcher to be scientific leader in an Arctic Resilience Report (ARR). The ARR has been approved as an Arctic Council project and is a priority for the Swedish chairmanship of the Arctic Council.

The Swedish Polar Research Secretariat and Swedish Research Council have established a shared roadmap for support to research projects in polar regions outside Sweden.
